Basic Detention Officer Course (Continuing Education)

Short Term

The Basic Detention Officer Certification Course (DOCC) at Â鶹ӰÊÓnical Community College is designed to equip students with the essential skills needed for entry-level employment as detention officers in North Carolina. This comprehensive program adheres to state commission-mandated topics and instructional methods, ensuring you receive the highest quality training.

Course Overview: Our curriculum covers a range of critical subjects, including:

  • Criminal Justice System
  • Legal Aspects of Management and Supervision
  • Physical Fitness
  • Ethics
  • Patrol and Security Functions of the Jail
  • Mental Health Awareness
  • Notetaking and Report Writing
  • Stress Management
  • Subject Control Techniques
  • Communication Skills
  • First Aid and CPR
     

To earn your certificate, students must successfully complete all units developed by the North Carolina Justice Academy and meet the standards set by the North Carolina Sheriffs' Education and Training Standards Commission.

Enrollment Requirements:

  • Agency sponsorship is required for enrollment.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent (such as a GED) is necessary.
